Why we exist
Every night, veterans across Middle Tennessee sleep in cars, on couches, or in shelters — not because they lack the will to recover, but because they lack the foundation to do it from. Stable housing is not a reward for sobriety. It is the condition that makes sobriety possible.
VHRC was founded by service-disabled veterans who lived this reality. We know what it means to come home and find that the systems meant to help you have gaps wide enough to fall through. We built this organization to close those gaps — one house, one veteran, one community at a time.
No veteran is turned away for inability to pay. That is not a policy. It is a founding principle — and it will never change.
"No veteran should have to choose between sobriety and a roof over their head. We exist to make sure they never have to."
— Founding Principle, Veteran Housing and Recovery Center
Veteran-led
Founded and operated by service-disabled veterans. Every decision is informed by lived experience.
Housing first
Stable housing is the foundation of recovery — not the reward for it. We believe that unconditionally.
Community-rooted
Recovery happens in community. Our programs are built around peer support and genuine human connection.
Our programs
Transitional Housing
Stable, furnished housing for veterans experiencing homelessness. Case managers work one-on-one with each resident toward permanent housing and self-sufficiency.
Sober Living
Structured, peer-supported homes for veterans in early recovery. Residents live alongside others who share their commitment to sobriety and their military background.
Our mission
The Veteran Housing and Recovery Center provides transitional housing, sober living, and recovery support for veterans in Middle Tennessee. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by service-disabled veterans — because the people who understand this problem best are the ones who lived it.
"We built this organization because we know what it means to come home and find that the systems meant to help you have gaps wide enough to fall through. We are here to close those gaps."

How it works
Call us or fill out our intake form online. A staff member — many of whom are veterans themselves — will respond within 24 hours.
We'll talk through your situation, verify your veteran status, and identify which program is the right fit — housing, sober living, or both.
Once a bed is available, you move in and begin working with your case manager. We handle the paperwork; you focus on recovery.
Every dollar goes directly to housing, recovery support, and case management for veterans in need. VHRC is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit — your donation is fully tax-deductible.
